East Devon Local Plan 2020 to 2042
|
The East Devon Local Plan 2020-2042 sets out the big decisions on planning for the future of the community. It is a statutory document prepared by the local planning authority (East Devon District Council) which sets out the vision and requirements for development in the area. It does this by defining policies that development must adhere to, and by allocating sites for specific uses, such as housing or employment land.
Consultation at every stage is a key part of the process of drawing up the Local Plan to ensure that it reflects the future needs of the whole community. The East Devon Local Plan 2020-2042 has been going through stages of preparation since 2021. Public consultation on options and approaches was used to prepare an initial draft in late 2022/early 2023. The Council then asked for public input on a range of specific topics, including housing, the economy, community facilities and infrastructure, conserving the natural and historic environment and sustainability. This informed preparation of a second draft of the plan which was consulted upon in early 2025. East Devon District Council has reviewed consultation responses to draw up a revised “publication” draft. This is now subject to final public consultation, prior to it being submitted to the Secretary of State for independent examination and approval.
